Researchers in EPET at the University of Houston develop solutions for a low-carbon, digitized energy future. We advance the generation, conversion, distribution, and intelligent management of electric power with a focus on tackling load growth, sustainability, electrification, and grid resilience. Research in this area spans zero-carbon grid operation, multi-energy hubs, hydrogen-battery microgrids, maritime and port electrification, and real-time carbon market modeling. In power electronics, we design high-efficiency converters, robust inverter controls, and smart/wireless EV charging to support reliable renewable integration. We also pioneer AI-driven optimization and hybrid quantum-classical computing for dispatch, market decisions, and real-time system performance. Through lab-based learning and strong industry partnerships, students gain hands-on experience that readies them to lead in modern electric power systems.
