Vinod Kumar
Dr Kumar has long experience in area of sustainable biotechnology. His research sits at the nexus of metabolic and pathway engineering, bioprocessing, and waste valorization, with a central goal of advancing low-carbon and sustainable biomanufacturing. His research group develops microbial cell factories and scalable bioprocesses for the conversion of renewable carbon and carbon-rich agro-industrial and industrial waste streams into platform and commodity chemicals, fuels, and value-added bioproducts. By integrating metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, enzyme and pathway engineering, fermentation technology, and process optimization, the group seeks to develop efficient and robust biological production systems that can transform underutilized waste carbon into valuable products.
A key focus of Dr Kumar’s research is the development of cleaner and more sustainable production routes that maximize carbon utilization, improve product titers, yields and productivity, minimize waste and energy consumption, and reduce carbon emission and dependence on fossil-derived feedstocks. His research is guided by the principles of the circular economy, connecting feedstock valorization, microbial cell-factory design, and bioprocess engineering to enable economically and environmentally sustainable biomanufacturing. Dr Kumar has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles in high-quality international journals and publishers, which have collectively received more than 10,000 citations, with an h-index of 59 to date.
